Why this career matters

Nearly everything people use on a screen (an app, a website, a checkout flow) was shaped by a designer deciding how it should work. Good UX design is the difference between a product people can actually use and one they give up on.

What you actually do

1
Design digital interfaces or website layouts and navigation
2
Test designs across browsers and devices for usability
3
Gather feedback from users to understand what they need
4
Iterate on designs based on customer or product research
5
Stay current on design trends and tools
6
Present and defend design decisions to the team

A day in the life

You start by reviewing feedback from a usability test, then sketch a few layouts for a new feature. Midday you're in a critique session with other designers, or on a call with an engineer to check what's technically possible. In the afternoon you refine a prototype in Figma and write up the reasoning behind a design decision for the rest of the team.
